Today in math class we worked on a page in our journals. Right now we are working on isometry, which is keeping a shape the same shape and size but moving it. There are three different moves- translation, rotation, and reflection.A translation iswhen you move a shape over and up. A rotation is when you rotate a shape by a degree. And last but not least, a reflection is when you reflect the shape over either the X or the Y axis.

END OF OIL!!!!!!!!!

January 23, 2007

Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if their was no oil? How would you travel from school and back? After reading an article in Mr. Hetheringtons class I’ll tell you that we are in for a big surprise in the next 30 years. M. King Hubbert predicted ( based on a new concept he introduced called oil production peak) that the oil pumped from the United States oil fields would peak around 1970. He was right on with his predictions and just as he said production peaked in 1970. According to Hubbert’s formula, oil production will peak in 2030, predicts Paul Roberts the author of the new book End Of Oil. After that production will decline. There is a group of countrys( most in the middle east area) that have joined together to make a group called OPEC (Orginization of Petroleum Exporting Countries). OPEC is a group that produces oil and controls about 60 % of the worlds oil. They meet every 6 months and discuss how much oil they are going to produce every 6 months. So when the non-OPEC oil runs out, will the OPEC countrys give oil to the non-OPEC countries? Think about it, will there be a war, or will the non-OPEC countries come up with a souloution? Some scientists in Luxembourg have introduced a new car called the MiniCAT (top left) that runs off of compressed air- not gas. So when the end of oil comes, we will see what happens.

MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATURK

January 9, 2007

Dear Vinny of America,

Since the end of World War I there has been many changes with our new and first president. His name is Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. He was a military hero in World War I. Ataturk has made many changes with our country. The men can no longer wear the fez in public and the women may not wear the veil. He gave the women the right to vote, and told them to go out and get a job and education, which many of the men were not very happy with. He did this because he felt that the men and women should have equal rights. The women are very unsure of themselves because they have never gone to school or had jobs so they don’t know what to do. Ataturk adopted the western clothing look and moved our capital from Istanbul to Ankara. One of the biggest changes that he made was introducing a new alphabet based on a Roman alphabet used in western European languages. Even though he has made so many changes with our country I kind of like him. Hope to hear from you soon.

                                            From,

                                                     Kyle Marsalisi

Where in the world

December 18, 2006

If i could go anywhere in the world for free I would go to Aruba. Aruba is so nice because it is in the Caribbean and has a beautiful climate. The water is a shade of turquoise and the sand is almost white. The water in the Caribbean Sea is usually warm reaching temperatures of 70 degrees. If I went there I would go snorkeling with the fishes everyday.
